The Texas YOR is concentrating on customer service skills during the 2005-2006 school year. With a grant provided by the Texas Workforce Commission, the Texas YOR has provided for 250 high school students to study customer service through an online course. After the course is completed, every student is prepared to take the National Professional Certification in Customer Service. Potential employers will know when they see the National Professional Certification in Customer Service on an applicant’s resume that the applicant is competent in customer service. It will show employers the following critical work functions have been mastered:

  • Learning about products or services
  • Assessing customer needs
  • Educating customers
  • Meeting customers’ needs and providing ongoing support
  • Preparing for selling
  • Gaining customer commitment and closing the sale
  • Developing and implementing a sales follow-up plan
